Gate remotes near me: the right remote, coded at your gate
A gate remote only works with the receiver it was made for, and only once it has been coded into it. We supply and code Centurion, ET, Gemini and Digidoor remotes at your gate, remove lost ones from the receiver, and replace receivers that have failed, across Johannesburg, the East Rand and Centurion.

Which remote works with your gate
Gate remotes use rolling or code-hopping codes, which change every press so a copied signal won't open the gate. The catch is that each make speaks its own format, so the remote has to match the receiver:
| Remote | Works with | Read more |
|---|---|---|
| Centurion NOVA | Centurion's NOVA receivers, on the control card or plugged in beside it | Centurion remote programming |
| ET BLUE and ET BLU MIX | ET receivers, including the one built into every Drive motor | ET Drive 500 manual |
| Gemini | The receiver on the Gemini control card, up to 30 remotes | Gemini manuals |
| Digidoor eKey | Digidoor garage openers | Digidoor |
A remote from another make won't learn into the receiver, however similar it looks. If you have a remote that works, bring it or send a photo of it: that tells us exactly what you need.

How a new remote is coded
Every make codes remotes differently, and most need the receiver itself:
- Centurion NOVA, with a Voyager plug-in receiver: the first remote learnt into an empty receiver becomes the master. To add another, hold any button on the master for ten flashes of the receiver's LED, about ten seconds but no more than twenty, then press the new remote's buttons while the LED stays on.
- ET Drive: through the motor's programming menu on the control card. The steps are on the ET Drive 500 page and the Drive 300 page.
- Gemini: hold the remote button, then press and release the LEARN button on the control card; the receiver's LED flashes twice when it has learnt the remote.
The ET and Gemini methods mean opening the motor, where the charger and power connections are, so we code them at your gate.

When a remote is lost or stolen
A lost remote is a key to your property, so it should come out of the receiver as soon as possible.
- ET Drive motors store each remote at its own user number, so one remote can be deleted on its own, if you know which number it was. ET's user manual has a page to log them.
- Centurion's Voyager receiver can only be cleared all at once, by bridging a link on the receiver. If the master remote is the one that's lost, Centurion's only way back is to erase the memory, learn a new master and relearn every other remote.
- Gemini receivers are cleared all at once by holding the LEARN button until the LED goes off, after which every remote you still have is learnt again.
After a full clear, gather every remote in the household before we come, so they can all be learnt in one visit.
When a remote stops working
- Try another remote, or the keypad. If those work, the problem is the remote; if nothing works, it's the motor or its power.
- Change the remote's battery. A remote that only works close to the gate usually has a weak one.
- Check for a lock-out. If the motor beeps or flashes at every press but doesn't move, holiday lock-out or party mode is probably on.
- Check the receiver's memory. A Gemini receiver flashes its LED five times when all 30 places are used, and a Centurion Voyager holds 36 buttons: nothing new can be added until space is cleared.
ET's Drive receivers can also show signal strength, which helps tell a tired remote from interference: see the Drive 300 page. If the receiver itself has failed, it's replaced and every remote is coded into the new one.
Opening the gate from your phone
A GSM module lets a phone act as a remote. Centurion's MyGSM, for example, lets up to 5,000 users trigger the gate with a missed call, and can send an SMS when the gate is opened. Gemini lists its sliders as GSM compatible, and Centurion's G-SPEAK ULTRA is a GSM intercom that rings your phone when a visitor presses the button at the gate.
A GSM unit needs a SIM card and signal at the gate. Tell us on the job card if you'd like one, and the technician will check the signal and quote.

Keypads for people without remotes
For a domestic worker, a garden service or visitors, a keypad at the gate is often better than another remote: each person gets a code, and a code can be changed or removed without anyone handing anything back. Centurion's SMARTGUARD keypads come wired or, as the SMARTGUARDair, wireless; setting one up is on the SMARTGUARD keypad page. A keypad needs a spot by the gate within reach of a car window, and we fit and code them alongside remotes.

Questions
Gate remote questions
How do I program a 4-button gate remote?
Each button is coded separately, and each takes one place in the receiver's memory: on a Centurion Voyager, press each button in turn while the receiver is in learn mode; an ET Drive 300 can learn all four buttons at once if they're set to the same format. A Gemini receiver learns a button each time LEARN is pressed with it held. See how remotes are coded.
Where can I buy gate remotes?
Security suppliers and online shops sell them, but the remote has to match your receiver's make and format, and it still has to be coded in. We bring the right remotes and code them at your gate. See which remote works with your gate.
How to use gate remote control?
Press the button that's been coded for the gate once, within sight of it. In the standard mode of ET's Drive motors, for example, a press while the gate moves stops it and the next sends it the other way. Other buttons may be coded for a pedestrian opening, a garage door or holiday lock-out. See which remote works with your gate.
Can I use my phone as a gate remote?
Yes, with a GSM module at the gate: Centurion's MyGSM lets up to 5,000 users open it with a missed call. It needs a SIM card and cellphone signal at the gate. Read about phone control.
How do I reset my electric gate remote?
The remote itself isn't reset; its code is removed from the receiver. On an ET Drive one remote can be deleted by its user number; on a Centurion Voyager or a Gemini the receiver is cleared and every remote you keep is learnt again. Read what to do about a lost remote.
