Digidoor garage motor repairs and installation
We repair and install Digidoor garage door openers, the Digi motors made by Hydro Doors, across Johannesburg, the East Rand and Centurion: the motor, its remotes and wall console, its battery back-up and the door it drives. Here's how the Digi range differs, what goes wrong, and what one costs.
Six-month guarantee on our repairs

The Digi range
| Model | Doors | What stands out | Read more |
|---|---|---|---|
| Digi One | Overhead doors, chain drive | Display for setup, LED courtesy light, optional battery back-up and auto-close | Digidoor manuals |
| Digi 6 | Sectional and tip-up, on a steel track | Self-locking gear motor; can be fitted flush for garages with little headroom | Digidoor manuals |
| Digi 7 | Roll-up | Fault codes on its display, two remotes in the box | Digidoor manuals |
| Digidoor III | Sectional, tip-up and roll-up | 230 V with 24 V battery back-up, wireless wall console with a lock switch | Digidoor 2 and III |
All of them run on 24 V DC motors with rolling-code remotes, and all have a manual release cord for power cuts.
Most Digidoor problems start with the door
Hydro Doors says it plainly in the Digi One manual: most complaints about garage door operation can be traced to the door itself, and the opener isn't meant to make up for a door that is unbalanced or binding. A properly balanced door stays where you leave it, at any height, held by its springs alone.
So before blaming the motor, look for the signs of a door problem: it is heavy or jerky by hand, it drifts down or springs up when released, a cable is frayed, or it runs crooked in its tracks. Those are door repairs, and spring work in particular is ours, never a DIY job: see garage door springs. The manuals also warn that an open door with a weak or broken spring can fall fast when the release is pulled.

Digidoor faults and codes
The Digi 7 shows a fault code on its display. The ones an owner meets most:
- E4, overload. The motor is straining. Hydro Doors says to release the motor and check that the door runs smoothly by hand.
- E6, beams. The safety beam has no line of sight: clear it and check the beams line up.
- E3, low opener power. Often an unbalanced door, or a door too big for that opener.
- E8, travel learning failure. The limits need to be learnt again.
- E0 and E1. An encoder or running-signal fault inside the opener: ours to fix.
If the power head is dead, with nothing on the display, check that the plug point it runs from has power. A fault on the plug point or the household supply is a job for a registered electrician. The full code table, with every model's setup steps, is on the Digidoor manual page.
All our spare parts are genuine, and every repair carries our six-month guarantee on our repairs.
Checks Hydro Doors asks of owners
The Digidoor manuals give owners a few checks that catch most problems early:
- Find out where the fault is. Pull the release cord and work the door by hand, then see whether the opener runs on its own with the door disconnected. A heavy door points to the door; a silent opener points to the opener.
- Remotes. If the push button works but a remote doesn't, change the remote's battery first, and if it only works close up, the battery is the usual reason. When two or more remotes fail together, the Digi One manual points to the control board.
- A door that opens but won't close. With beams fitted, a faulty beam is the likely cause.
- The reversal test. The Digi 7 manual asks for a monthly check that the door reverses when it closes onto a 40 mm high object on the floor; the Digidoor III manual, at least once a year.
- A yearly service. Hydro Doors says the door and opener should be serviced every year, with the springs greased.
A fuse inside the opener, the force setting and the limits are adjustments for us.
eKey remotes and the wall console
Digidoor's remotes use rolling codes, so a copied signal won't open the door. The Digi One and Digidoor III take Digidoor's eKey remotes, and the Digi 6's four-button remote works at 433.92 MHz. On a Digi One, remotes are added with the CODE button on the opener; on a Digidoor III, through the first wireless wall console paired with it, the master console, whose buttons also work the door, the light and the lock.
The Digidoor III's on-board receiver holds 28 users. Its status indicator shows whether it is running on the mains or the battery, and whether the lock function is on: a door that won't open from any remote is worth checking for that before anything else.

Battery back-up
The Digidoor III runs from 230 V with a 24 V battery back-up, and the Digi One and Digi 6 take an optional back-up battery. Without one, a Digi opener stops in a power cut and the door is worked by hand with the release cord. If yours doesn't have a back-up battery, we can fit one where the model takes it.
Digidoor prices
In South African shops, a digidoor opener with battery back-up costs about R4 580 (Takealot), without installation. Prices checked October 2026.
For a new garage motor fitted, our installed kits are on garage door motor prices. Repairs are priced on site. Your exact price is set in a free quote before any work starts. No call-out fee when we do the work. If no work is done, a R650 call-out fee applies.

Questions
Digidoor questions
What remotes work with DigiDoor?
Digidoor's own rolling-code remotes: the eKey range for the Digi One and Digidoor III. They're coded with the CODE button on a Digi One, or through the master wall console on a Digidoor III. Remotes from another make won't learn. See eKey remotes and the console.
Why does my Digidoor stop and reverse?
Usually because the door is too heavy or stiff for the opener's force setting: a spring has weakened, a track is bent or the door is binding. Pull the release cord and lift the door by hand: if it's heavy or jerky, the door needs the repair, not the motor. Read why the door comes first.
Can a Digidoor open in a power cut?
Only if it has a back-up battery: the Digidoor III comes with 24 V back-up, and the Digi One and Digi 6 take an optional battery. Without one, the door is opened by hand with the release cord, as long as its springs are sound. See battery back-up.
Who makes Digidoor garage motors?
Digidoor's Digi openers are made by Hydro Doors, which also makes sectional and roll-up garage doors, and its manuals for each Digi model are published on hydrodoors.co.za. We repair and install them as an independent repairer, with genuine parts. See the Digi range.
My Digidoor shows E4. What does it mean?
E4 on a Digi 7 is an overload alarm: the motor is working too hard. Release the motor and move the door by hand; if it doesn't run smoothly, the door needs adjusting before the opener is used again. See the Digidoor codes.
