Garage door motor prices: installed kits and shop prices

Our garage door motor kits are priced installed: a Centurion RDO Digital roll-up kit is R3 899 fitted, with its battery back-up and remote. Below are all three kits, what garage motors cost in South African shops, what fitting adds on its own, and what can change the price. Prices checked October 2026.

Which kit suits your door

  • A roll-up door takes the Centurion RDO Digital roll-up kit or the ET DC Blue Advanced roll-up kit. Centurion's manual gives the RDO Digital doors up to 2.8 m wide and 10 m² in area, and ET rates its DC Blue Advanced roll-up for doors of 8 m², so both cover a standard single garage. The choice comes down to the brand and the remotes: the RDO uses Centurion's NOVA remotes, and the DC Blue Advanced roll-up reads ET's BLU MIX remotes and the older ET Blue ones.
  • A sectional or trackless tip-up door takes the ET DC Blue Advanced sectional / tip-up kit, which ET makes for doors under 10 m² single width and under 15 m² double width.

Each motor has a size limit for a reason: every one assumes a door that's balanced and runs freely. Which door needs which motor, and what the fitting involves, is on garage door motor installation.

What garage motors cost in shops

For comparison, typical South African shop prices for the motor or kit alone, without installation:

What fitting adds on its own

Bought from a shop, a motor still has to be fitted. Published cost guides put the labour alone at:

Garage motor fitting, typical labour prices
JobTypical price
Installation labour, roll-up motorR1 000–R2 000 (Kandua)
Installation labour, sectional or tip-up motorR1 200–R2 500 (Kandua)
Garage motor for sectional and tip-up doorsR2 500–R3 800 (ProCompare)

So a shop kit plus a fitter's labour can come to more than the same kit installed by us. Prices checked October 2026.

What changes the price

A kit price covers a standard installation. Anything beyond it is priced before any work starts:

  • No plug point near the motor. Garage motors plug into a socket rather than being wired in, and adding one is a job for a registered electrician.
  • A door that isn't balanced. Weak springs, frayed cables or a door that binds in its tracks are put right before a motor goes on, or the new motor struggles against them. See garage door springs.
  • A bigger door. A double-width sectional door or an unusually wide roll-up needs a motor sized for it.
  • Extras. More remotes, a wall keypad or safety beams, which Centurion lists as optional but recommended on its sectional motor.

Your exact price is set in a free quote before any work starts. No call-out fee when we do the work. If no work is done, a R650 call-out fee applies.

Call-out fees compared

Call-out fees for garage doors in the wider market typically run R350–R800 (Kandua); R450–R750 (published price lists of Gauteng installers), before any work is done. With us, the rule is simple. No call-out fee when we do the work. If no work is done, a R650 call-out fee applies. Prices checked October 2026.

Repair instead of replace?

A garage motor that has stopped doesn't always need replacing. Batteries, control cards, receivers and remotes can usually be repaired or replaced on their own, and cost guides put a spring, cable or motor component repair at R1 200–R4 000 (Handld), typically about R2 200. Prices checked October 2026.

When the door is sound and the motor still fails, a technician can tell you whether a repair or a new kit makes more sense. Weighing the two up is in garage door repairs, and the repairs themselves are on garage door repairs.

Where these prices come from

The three kit prices are ours, set against the fitted prices Gauteng installers advertise for the same garage motors. Every other figure on this page is a market price, taken in October 2026 from these South African shops and cost guides:

Questions

Garage motor price questions

What is the average price of a garage door motor in South Africa?

In shops, without fitting, garage motors run from about R1 870 for an ET roll-up motor head to about R4 580 for a Digidoor opener with battery back-up. Fitting typically adds R1 000–R2 000 for a roll-up. Prices checked October 2026. See the shop prices.

How much should a new garage door motor cost?

Installed, our kits are R3 899 and R4 399 for roll-up doors and R5 599 for sectional and tip-up doors, each with battery back-up, remotes and standard fitting. Prices checked October 2026. Compare the kits.

How much does it cost to put a motor on a garage door?

A kit fitted by us covers it for a standard door, from the motor to coding the remotes. What adds to it is a missing plug point, a door that needs its springs or tracks fixed first, or extras such as a keypad. Your exact price is set in a free quote before any work starts. No call-out fee when we do the work. If no work is done, a R650 call-out fee applies. See what changes the price.

Which garage door motor is the best in South Africa?

The right motor is the one made for your door: a roll-up motor for a roll-up door, a ceiling motor for a sectional or tip-up, sized to the door's width and area. Centurion and ET both make current motors for each, with battery back-up. See which kit suits your door.

Is a garage motor cheaper in a shop?

The motor alone is, but it still needs fitting, its limits and safety force set and its remotes coded. Once the cost guides' labour is added, a shop kit can come to more than the same kit installed by us. See what fitting adds.
