Gate motor repairs in Boksburg: Centurion motors, batteries and remotes

Centurion is the make Boksburg asks about most. The models we see are the D5-Evo and the D5 SMART for gates up to 500 kg, the D3 SMART for lighter gates up to 300 kg, the D6 SMART for 600 kg, and the D10 for gates up to 1,000 kg, with plenty of older D-series motors still going.

The faults that bring us out are much the same from one model to the next:

• A battery that no longer holds, so the gate is slow, beeps, or stops dead in a power cut.
• A worn pinion or rack, so the motor runs but the gate doesn't move, or jumps along the rail.
• Lost limits, where the gate stops short or overruns after a power failure or a release.
• A dead controller, often after a storm, which we test before anything is replaced.
• Remotes that stop, one at a time or all at once.

In a power cut the battery is all that moves the gate, and load shedding has made that a regular test. A battery near the end of its life shows it first in an outage: the gate crawls, the motor beeps, or it manages one trip and gives up.

We test the battery under load, not just its voltage at rest, and check the charger that keeps it topped up, because a failing charger can flatten a new battery too. If the battery is fine and the gate still dies in a power cut, the fault is somewhere else, and we find it before you pay for a battery you didn't need.

Before buying, it's worth knowing which fault you have:

• One remote stopped: usually its battery, or it has been dropped once too often.
• Every remote stopped at once: the receiver, or the motor itself, not the remotes.
• Remotes work only close to the gate: the receiver's aerial, or something new between the house and the gate.

A motor can only move a gate that runs freely. When we arrive, the technician releases the motor and slides the gate by hand: if it binds, scrapes or sticks at one point, the money goes on the wheels, the rail or the guide rollers before the motor, and you see why.

Boksburg has a lot of working gates as well as home ones. A factory or yard gate that trucks pass through all day is heavier, longer and busier than a driveway gate, and it needs a motor built for that, such as the D10, with a rack and rail to match.
