Gate motor repairs in Germiston: Hansa, DTS and industrial gates

Germiston's gates work harder than most: yard gates that open for trucks all day, and home gates on motors that have been running for years. Hansa and DTS come up by name in Germiston's searches, and we repair both, along with Centurion, ET and Gemini, across Germiston, for factories, depots and homes alike.

Hansa, Nice and DTS motors

Hansa is a name people in Germiston search for by itself, and it's often on older, heavier gates whose motors have been going for a long time. Nice, whose group now includes ET, has its own sliders such as the Robus, and DTS motors are on gates here too. We repair all three.

We don't hold Hansa's or DTS's manuals, so we don't publish programming steps or wiring for them; a wrong step can wipe the remotes or the travel settings. A technician sets them up on site, with the motor in front of them. What fails on them is what fails on most sliders:

  • The battery, when the gate stops in a power cut.
  • The pinion and rack, worn or loose, so the motor runs and the gate jerks, stalls or doesn't move.
  • The board, after a surge or lightning.
  • A stiff gate, which the motor reads as something in the way, and stops.

With an older motor, the real question is parts. Batteries, remotes, pinions and rack can usually be found; some boards and gearbox parts can't, or not quickly. We tell you which applies once we've seen the label, and if a repair isn't sensible, we price a new motor beside it. More is on Nice and Hansa and gate motor PC board repairs.

Yard, factory and depot gates

Germiston is built on steel, railways and road freight, and an industrial entrance asks things of a gate motor that a driveway never does:

  • Weight and length. A yard gate is longer and heavier than a house gate. The motor has to be built for it, such as Centurion's D10 for gates up to 1,000 kg, and the rail, wheels and rack have to carry it.
  • How often it runs. A motor's rating also covers how many times an hour it can open. A gate that opens every few minutes for trucks needs a motor built for that, or it overheats and cuts out to protect itself, which looks like a fault but isn't.
  • Damage. Trucks touch gates. A bent gate, a lifted rail or a crushed rack is part of industrial gate work, and we repair those as well as the motor.
  • Safety beams across the opening, so a closing gate stops and reverses for a vehicle or a person in its path.

Where a gate is too slow for the traffic, a boom can take the busy lane. Nice's Wide M and Wide L barriers, for example, are built for up to 3,000 operations a day. We supply and install booms; see boom gates.

Keeping a business entrance running

A few habits save a lot of downtime on a busy gate:

  • Keep the release key where the shift manager can find it, so the gate can be opened by hand during a power cut or a fault. Our guide to opening a gate by hand shows the safe way.
  • Keep the rail clear. Stones, grit and pallet off-cuts in the rail stop a gate as surely as a dead motor.
  • Know who holds the remotes. Lost remotes are a security problem on a business site; we can remove them from the receiver and code new ones.
  • Have it serviced before it fails, not after. What a service covers is on gate motor maintenance.

Centurion, ET and Gemini too

Plenty of Germiston gates run on the three most common makes, and we repair them all: batteries, boards, pinions, limits and remotes. Their faults are explained in plain English on the Centurion manuals, the ET Drive 500 manual and the Gemini manuals. All our spare parts are genuine. Repairs Plus is an independent installer and repairer. We are not the manufacturer.

Booking a gate technician in Germiston

Tell us the make and model of the motor if you can, and send a photo of its label: for Hansa and DTS motors especially, it tells us what parts to look for. For a business, add a contact on site and the hours we can work. Same-day repairs are part of the week in Germiston when bookings allow, and the 24/7 emergency repairs across Gauteng cover a yard gate stuck open overnight. Every repair carries our six-month guarantee on our repairs. No call-out fee when we do the work. If no work is done, a R650 call-out fee applies.

Questions

Gate motor questions from Germiston

Do you repair Hansa gate motors in Germiston?

Yes: batteries, pinions, racks, boards and remotes, with programming done on site, since we don't publish Hansa's steps without its manual. On an older Hansa we tell you early whether the parts can still be found. Read about Hansa and DTS.

Why does our factory gate stop working on busy days?

It may be opening more often than the motor is built for, so it overheats and cuts out to protect itself. A heavier-duty motor, or a boom for the busy lane, is the cure; we look at the traffic before recommending either. Read about industrial gates.

Is an old DTS gate motor worth repairing?

Often, if the fault is the battery, pinion, rack or remotes. If it's a board or gearbox part that can't be found, a new motor is usually the better buy, and we price both so you can choose. See what fails.

Can you service the gates at our depot regularly?

Yes. Tell us how many gates and booms there are and how busy they are, and we'll plan service visits around your shifts. See how to keep an entrance running.
