Garage door repairs in Germiston: tip-up, sectional and roll-up doors
Every kind of garage door is on Germiston's houses and workshops: tip-up doors that swing out in one piece, sectional doors that rise in panels, and roll-up doors that coil above the opening. Each fails in its own way and takes its own motor. We repair all three, their springs and their motors, across Germiston.
Six-month guarantee on our repairs
1-year guarantee on every motor kit we supply and install

Which door do you have?
| Door | How it opens | What usually fails |
|---|---|---|
| Tip-up | One rigid panel swings out at the bottom and up into the garage | The springs at the sides, the pivot arms, and the door catching on the frame |
| Sectional | Panels hinged together roll up tracks and lie flat under the ceiling | Torsion springs, cables and drums, rollers and bent tracks |
| Roll-up | A steel curtain coils onto a drum above the opening | Springs inside the drum, dented side guides, the curtain working loose on the drum |
Knowing which you have tells you, and us, what the fault is likely to be and which motors will fit. If you're not sure, a photo of the door from inside the garage settles it.
Tip-up doors
A tip-up door is a single panel, so it needs clear space in front of it on the driveway as it swings out, and it's balanced by springs at the sides rather than a shaft overhead. When those springs tire, the door becomes heavy, won't stay up, or drops on one side; when a pivot arm bends, it catches on the frame as it swings.
Tip-up doors can take a motor. Centurion's SDO4 runs a tip-up door, more slowly than a sectional one, at 80 mm a second against 140, and ET's DC Blue Advanced sectional operator takes trackless tip-up doors under 15 m². Our installed ET DC Blue Advanced sectional / tip-up kit is R5 599 with battery back-up and remotes. Prices checked October 2026. As with any door, the springs are put right before a motor goes on.
A side spring on its own, such as ET's wide-door balance spring, is typically about R900 (NeonSales) in shops, before fitting.

Sectional doors
A sectional door has more moving parts than any other: panels, hinges and rollers running in two tracks, and torsion springs on a shaft over the opening that wind steel cables onto drums. A door that judders at the curve, lifts crooked or has a cable hanging slack is a hardware repair, not a motor one. The door should move by hand with little effort and stay where you leave it; Centurion's SDO4 manual sets the limit at about 10 kg of effort and 100 mm of drift. How the parts fit together is on sectional garage doors.

Roll-up doors
Roll-up doors are on Germiston's workshops and stores as well as its house garages. Their faults are a short list: a spring that has lost tension, a side guide dented by a vehicle, a curtain that has pulled loose from its drum, or a motor that has given up. The motors we fit and the size limits that matter for a workshop door are on our Germiston page, and the doors themselves on roll-up garage doors.
Garage door faults we fix
- The door won't open, but the motor hums or clicks. Often a broken spring or a door that has jammed, so the motor can't lift it. See garage door motor working but not opening.
- It starts to close, then goes back up. The safety reversing has sensed something: an obstruction, beams out of line, a door that drags, or limits that have shifted. See garage door won't close.
- The motor beeps. Most motors beep to report a fault or a low battery; garage door motor beeping explains the common patterns.
- The remotes have stopped, one or all of them. We code new remotes to the motor on the visit; see garage door remotes.
- It's noisy or jerky. Worn rollers or hinges, dry springs, or a track out of line.
Never try to adjust or release a garage door spring yourself: it holds the door's weight under tension. All our spare parts are genuine, and every repair carries our six-month guarantee on our repairs.

Likely causes
Garage door motor · the motor does nothing
Most likely first
No power: the plug is loose, the power point is off, or a fuse has blown.
Not enough power reaching the motor from its battery or power supply (a Centurion SDO4 shows E7, or Lb for a low battery).
Safe checks you can do
When to stop and book
Fuses and the motor's power supply are a technician's job.

Questions
Garage door questions from Germiston
Can you put a motor on a tip-up garage door?
Yes, once its side springs are sound and it swings freely: Centurion's SDO4 and ET's DC Blue Advanced sectional operator both drive tip-up doors. Our installed ET DC Blue Advanced sectional / tip-up kit is R5 599 (prices checked October 2026). Read about tip-up doors.
Why is my tip-up garage door suddenly so heavy?
One of the springs at its sides has broken or lost tension, so you're lifting the door's real weight. Stop using the motor on it, keep clear, and book a repair: the springs are fitted and tensioned by a technician. See tip-up door faults.
Do you repair garage doors on workshops in Germiston?
Yes, roll-up doors on workshops and stores as well as house garages: springs, guides, curtains and motors. For a wide door, send the size and a photo first, so we can say whether our motors suit it. Read about roll-up doors.
