How we work out a garage door price
A garage door repair is priced on what's actually wrong, and that's often not what it first looks like: a motor that "won't lift" can just as well be a broken spring as a dead motor. So the technician checks four things before giving a price:
- The door on its own. With the motor released, the door should move easily by hand and stay where it's left. Centurion's manuals set the test: for a sectional door, no more than about 10 kg of effort and no more than 100 mm of drift; for a roll-up door, no more than about 15 kg. A door that fails needs its springs or hardware seen to first.
- The springs, cables and guides, which carry and steer the door's weight.
- The motor: its battery, its board and its limits, and whether it's worth repairing at its age.
- The remotes and receiver, if the complaint is that the door won't respond.
Then you get the price, and nothing is done until you agree to it. Your exact price is set in a free quote before any work starts. No call-out fee when we do the work. If no work is done, a R650 call-out fee applies.

What makes one repair cost more than another
- The type of door. Roll-up, sectional and tip-up doors each have their own springs and hardware, and each is a different job. Not sure which you have? Sectional garage doors and roll-up garage doors show the difference.
- Whether it's one part or a chain. A cable that has come off its drum has often worn the drum or a bracket on the way; a spring that broke may have strained the motor. We price what's damaged, not just what failed first.
- The motor's age. Past a certain point, a new board and battery cost a fair share of a new motor, and we'll say so when a new kit is the better buy.
- The parts. We fit parts for the makes we work on, Centurion, ET, Digidoor, Gemini, DTS and Nice/Hansa. All our spare parts are genuine.
Springs are the one repair never to try yourself: they hold the door's weight under tension. More on them, and their costs, is on garage door spring replacement cost.

Garage doors and gate motors on one visit
Plenty of homes have both a gate motor and a garage motor, and it's often worth looking at them together: a storm or surge that damages one can damage the other, and batteries fitted at the same time wear out at about the same time. We repair and service gate motors and garage door motors on the same visit, and quote for both at once.
Remotes can usually be combined, too. On many multi-button remotes, one button can be coded to the gate and another to the garage, as long as both receivers accept that remote. Gate motor work in town is on gate motors in Kempton Park.
We don't sell new garage doors: a door is made to its opening by a door maker. Once a new door is in, we can fit the motor.
Garages across Kempton Park
The 2011 Census counted 171 575 people in Kempton Park's 149 km², and we repair garage doors for homes right across it: from Kempton Park West and the streets around Kempton Park Hospital to the town centre, and out to the smallholdings in the north-east. For everything else we do here, see Kempton Park.
Booking a garage door technician in Kempton Park
Tell us the type of door and the motor's make, and send a photo of each, so the technician brings the right parts. Same-day repairs happen here when the day's bookings allow, and the 24/7 emergency repairs across Gauteng cover a door that won't close. Every repair carries our six-month guarantee on our repairs. No call-out fee when we do the work. If no work is done, a R650 call-out fee applies.
Questions
Garage door questions from Kempton Park
How much do garage door repairs cost in Kempton Park?
It depends on what's broken: in the market, a fitted spring typically costs R1 400–R3 200 and a cable replacement R700–R1 600 (prices checked October 2026). We give you our price after checking the door, before any work. See typical prices.
Do you charge to look at my garage door?
Not if we go ahead with the repair. No call-out fee when we do the work. If no work is done, a R650 call-out fee applies. On the visit the technician checks the door, its springs and the motor, tells you what's wrong and what fixing it costs, and nothing is touched until you say yes. See how we price.
Can you fix my garage door and gate motor on one visit?
Yes. Book both on one job card and the technician looks at the gate and the garage on the same visit, with one quote for the two. Read about doing both.
Is it cheaper to repair my old garage motor or buy a new one?
Often it's the repair, but not always: once a motor needs a new board and battery at an advanced age, a new kit can be the better buy. Our Centurion RDO Digital roll-up kit is R3 899 installed, and we'll compare the two for you. See what drives the price.
