Centurion RDO Digital programming: adding and deleting remotes

Centurion makes two roll-up garage motors that learn remotes differently. The RDO Digital has a small display on its control box, with +, −, Learn and Confirm buttons; the older RDO II has no display, just a Learn button and an LED under its lamp cover. Find yours below, then follow its steps from Centurion's manual. Each one stores its remotes in the control box on the wall, so that's where you'll stand.

RDO Digital or RDO II?

Both take Centurion's NOVA code-hopping remotes on 433 MHz, and neither manual gives a way to delete one remote on its own: deleting clears them all.

Learning a remote on the RDO Digital

  1. Start from standby, with just a dot on the display.
  2. Press the red Learn button once. The display shows how many remotes are stored (00 when empty) for a second or two, then bu.
  3. Choose what the button will do with + or −: stay on bu to learn every button of a four-button remote in one go, or pick one function from the table below.
  4. Hold the remote's button for 3 to 4 seconds. The code on the display flashes once, then the courtesy light and buzzer confirm.
  5. Press Learn again to leave learn mode.

LiLight4 flashes, 4 beepsSwitches the courtesy light; held down, starts remote learning
AoAutoclose override5 flashes, 5 beepsHeld 3 seconds with the door closed, opens it and keeps it open

A button can only carry one function. After bulk mode, press each button once to see which does what.

From a remote you already have, a button learnt as Li, held about 5 seconds, opens bulk mode: the count shows, then bu. Hold each new remote's buttons in turn, then press Learn to finish.

Holiday lockout on the Digital. Held 3 seconds, the lockout button gives one flash and one beep. If the door isn't closed, ho blinks on the display until it is; then the control box's own buttons are disabled too. Any other remote gets one beep and three flashes. A lockout button switches it off with two beeps and two flashes.

Learning a remote on the older RDO II

The RDO II counts presses instead of showing codes. Its Learn button and LED are under the courtesy-lamp cover on the control box.

  1. Check the forced learn has been done. Centurion insists the motor has learnt its door before any remote goes in; it's done once, at installation.
  2. Press Learn the number of times for the function you want: once for open and close, twice for the light, three times for holiday lockout, four times for autoclose override.
  3. Watch the light and LED. They flash that number of times, every two seconds, to show the choice.
  4. Hold the remote's button for 3 seconds. Three flashes mean it's learnt.
  5. Leave it. Learn mode closes 10 seconds after the last button, with 2 seconds of quick flashing.

The RDO II's manual gives no way to open learn mode from a remote, so new remotes are learnt at the control box. Holiday lockout flashes once on and twice off. The rest of its setup is on the Centurion RDO manual.

Deleting remotes and starting again

Neither manual removes a single remote. To shut out a lost or stolen one, delete them all and learn back the ones you still have.

  • RDO Digital: from standby, press Learn once; when bu appears, hold Confirm for 5 to 6 seconds. A beep sounds and the courtesy light flashes rapidly; when the display shows a dot again, every remote is gone. Centurion warns that the rapid flashing can affect anyone with photosensitive epilepsy, so keep them away while it runs.
  • RDO II: open the lamp cover, press Learn once (the LED flashes slowly), then hold the black Run button. The LED flashes fast, and when it stops, every remote code is gone.

A factory reset won't do it: the RDO Digital's reset (Learn held while the power comes on, until Fr shows) keeps the remotes.

When a remote won't learn

  • The remote's own battery. Centurion's RDO II fault table names a flat remote battery among the reasons a door runs from the box but not the remote.
  • The button is already taken. A button learnt to one function won't take a second; use another button, or delete all and start again.
  • The memory is full: 20 remotes on the Digital, 22 codes on the RDO II.
  • The RDO II's aerial wire should hang straight.
  • Holiday lockout is on. Switch it off with a lockout button first.
  • The forced learn hasn't been done on an RDO II.

When to call us

Call us when a remote still won't learn after those checks, when every remote has stopped at once, or when the control box shows an error or the door won't run from its own buttons. We code new NOVA remotes on site, clear lost ones from the memory, and repair RDO and RDO Digital motors. All our spare parts are genuine. No call-out fee when we do the work. If no work is done, a R650 call-out fee applies.

Questions

RDO remote questions

How do I program my Centurion RDO digital remote?

Press the red Learn button once, choose bu for all four buttons or a single function with + and −, then hold the remote's button for 3 to 4 seconds until the light and buzzer confirm. Press Learn to finish. See the Digital steps.

How do I program the Centurion RDO remote?

On the older RDO II, open the lamp cover and press Learn once for open and close (twice for the light, three times for lockout, four for override), then hold the remote's button for 3 seconds until three flashes confirm. See the RDO II steps.

Can I program a garage remote myself?

Yes, on both RDOs, as long as you can reach the control box on the wall; on an RDO II the Learn button sits under the hinged lamp cover. If it won't take after the checks on this page, we'll code it on site. See why a remote won't learn.

How do I remove a lost remote from a Centurion RDO?

Delete every remote and learn back the ones you still have: neither manual removes one remote on its own. On the Digital, hold Confirm in learn mode until the display returns to a dot; on the RDO II, hold Run after one press of Learn. See deleting remotes.

What do the flashes mean when learning a Centurion RDO remote?

On the RDO Digital, two to five flashes and beeps say which function the button learnt. On the RDO II, one to four flashes show the function chosen and three confirm the button. See every signal.
