Nemtek energizer repairs, replacements and prices
Nemtek is a South African maker of electric fence energisers, and we repair and replace its Druid, Wizord and Merlin units across Johannesburg, the East Rand and Centurion. Here's how to tell which Nemtek you have, what its lights are telling you, what the current models cost in shops, and when a repair beats a new unit.

Which Nemtek do you have?
The name is on the front of the box. The families we work on:
| Family | Front panel | Zones |
|---|---|---|
| Druid 13, 15 and 18 LCD | A display showing the fence's condition and alarms | 1 |
| Druid 25 and 28 LCD | The same display | 2, or 4 with two units networked |
| Druid 114 LCD | The same display | 1 |
| Wizord 2 and 4 | A row of status lights instead of a display | Per model |
| Merlin Stealth | Lights, and a keypad to operate it | Per model |
All of them switch on and off with Nemtek's plastic tab held over the logo, or a keypad or key-switch where one is fitted, and all run from the mains with a battery to carry them through a power cut. Nemtek says plainly that there are no user-serviceable parts inside.

Nemtek price list: energisers in shops
| Energiser | Typical shop price |
|---|---|
| Nemtek Druid 13 LCD | about R2 940–R3 280 (Takealot, NeonSales) |
| Nemtek Druid 15 LCD | about R2 740–R3 540 (Takealot, NeonSales) |
| Nemtek Merlin 4i with keypad | about R3 750 (Takealot) |
| Nemtek Druid 18 | about R4 490 (Takealot) |
| Nemtek Druid 28 LCD | about R5 190–R5 210 (Takealot, NeonSales) |
| Nemtek Druid 25 LCD (2 zone) | about R6 230 (NeonSales) |
| Nemtek Druid 114 LCD (14 J) | about R8 250 (NeonSales) |
And the fence itself: nemtek 1.6 mm aluminium wire, 1,000 m sells for about R1 070 (Takealot), and nemtek 6- or 8-line brackets for about R540–R970 per 10 (Takealot). Prices checked October 2026.
These are prices for the unit in a box. Fitting it, earthing it and connecting the zones, siren and keypad are what an installation adds; what a whole fence costs is on electric fence prices.
Reading a Nemtek's lights
On a Wizord, the front-panel lights follow one simple rule from Nemtek's manual: flashing means it's happening now, steady means it happened earlier.
| Light | What it tells you |
|---|---|
| Power on | Mains is present. It goes out in a power cut |
| On | The energiser is switched on. Flashing: it's in low-voltage mode |
| Fence alarm flashing | The fence voltage isn't good right now |
| Fence alarm steady | There was a fence alarm, but the voltage is good again |
| Gate flashing | A gate is still open |
| Gate steady | A gate was open longer than the entry delay, and is now closed |
| Service | Should stay off. On after a long power cut, it usually clears by switching off and on |
Turning it on and off: hold the tab over the logo. One beep means on, two mean off. Clearing an alarm: switch it off (the siren and strobe stop), fix whatever is flashing, then switch it on again. A steady light clears when you switch back on; a flashing one won't until the fault is gone.
The Druid LCD models show the same information as words and symbols on their display: see energisers for silencing, clearing and the keypad PINs.
Nemtek energisers in a power cut
Nemtek's energisers run on a 12 V 7 Ah lead-acid battery when the mains goes. To make it last, they drop to a reduced energy level on battery, and Nemtek's figure for a good battery is about 24 hours, less on a fence in poor condition.
Two things follow from that. First, a fence on battery may show a lower voltage or a part-lit fence display: Nemtek asks you to restore the mains before judging the fence's condition. Second, after a long outage the service light may come on because the battery ran low; switching off and on clears it once the mains is back. Nemtek recommends checking the batteries twice a year. A battery that no longer lasts the night is worn: see electric fence not working.
Repair or replace a Nemtek
We repair Nemtek energisers that have failed from a surge, lightning, water or age, and we tell you before starting whether a repair is worth it next to a new unit from the price list above. As a rule of thumb:
- A newer Druid with one failed part, such as a charger or a keypad, is usually worth repairing.
- An old unit hit by lightning, with burnt boards, usually isn't.
- A fence that's grown, with more lines, a longer run or a second zone wanted, is the time to step up, for example to a two-zone Druid 25 or 28, or to network a second one for four zones.
A unit that alarms all the time on a clean fence, or won't hold its voltage, is worth testing before replacing: the cause is often the fence, not the box. Start with electric fence not working.
Installing a Nemtek electric fence
A Nemtek fence goes in the same way as any electric fence: brackets and insulators on the wall, the wire strung and tensioned, the energiser mounted where it's ventilated and dry, earth spikes driven, the zones, gate switches, siren and keypad connected, and the fence tested and given its compliance certificate. The connection rules from Nemtek's installer notes are on energisers, and the whole job on electric fence installation.
It's an installer's job, not a DIY one: the fence carries lethal pulses and must meet the standard.
- Certified electric fence installer
- 2-year warranty and a compliance certificate on every new electric fence we install
More on the certificate: electric fence certificate.

Questions
Nemtek questions
How to install Nemtek electric fence?
Brackets and insulators go on the wall, the wire is strung and tensioned, and the energiser is mounted in a dry, ventilated spot with its earth spikes, zones, gate switches, siren and keypad connected; then the fence is tested and gets its compliance certificate. It's an installer's job because of the high voltage. See installing.
How much is a Nemtek Energizer?
In South African shops, a Druid 13 LCD sells for about R2 940–R3 280, a Druid 28 LCD for about R5 190–R5 210, and the two-zone Druid 25 LCD for about R6 230, before installation. Prices checked October 2026. See the price list.
What is the price of a Nemtek fence meter?
We haven't checked a current shop price for a Nemtek fence tester, so we don't quote one. A Druid LCD shows the fence's condition on its own display, which tells most owners what they need; testing the voltage along the fence is part of our repair visit. See reading the lights.
