ET (Nice) gate and garage motor repairs and installation

We repair and install ET's Drive sliding gate motors, the older ET 500 and ET 1000, Wingo swing motors and DC Blue garage door motors, with their ET BLUE and ET BLU MIX remotes. ET is now part of the Nice group, so newer models carry both names. Here's what goes wrong with them, what the kits cost and where every manual is.

The ET Drive range, side by side

ET's sliding gate motors differ mainly in how heavy a gate they move and how often they may run. The duty cycle is the share of time the motor may spend running: 25% suits a home, 98% a complex.

Every Drive runs on a battery that the supply keeps charged, so a healthy one carries the gate through a power cut. Older gates still run the ET 500, ET 500 Plus and ET 1000, which have no display; their remotes are coded on the receiver itself, as the ET manual page explains.

What goes wrong with ET gate motors

Most ET faults show on the display in words, and most of them trace back to something other than the motor itself:

  • The gate stalls or overloads. A wheel, guide roller or track is binding, or the rack has dropped onto the pinion. The motor senses the extra effort and stops, as it should.
  • 12 V aux errors. An accessory on the 12 V output, usually a beam, keypad or receiver, is failing and drawing too much current.
  • Battery and charging faults. An old battery, a blown fuse, or a transformer that has stopped supplying the charger.
  • Limit errors. The magnet actuator on the rack has moved, or the rack has jumped on the pinion.
  • Remotes ignored. A remote that was never learnt or has been erased, a remote that isn't ET's format, or a lock-out left on: five quick flashes and beeps at every press mean holiday lock-out or party mode.

Every message is explained on Drive 500 fault messages, and the Drive 300's three-letter codes on the Drive 300 page. All our spare parts are genuine, and every repair carries our six-month guarantee on our repairs.

Wingo and the older ET swing arms

For swing gates, ET's current motor is the Wingo: a 24 V arm on each leaf, run from a control unit with its own battery. ET rates it for leaves up to 3.5 m long and 500 kg, and up to 720 cycles a day at no more than 30 an hour, with the heaviest and longest leaves taking it closer to its limit. Older swing gates may still carry an ET Axis or a 90 Blue Plus.

On a swing gate the hinges matter as much as the motor: a dropped or stiff hinge makes the arm work harder on every cycle, and the gate stops or reverses as if something were in the way.

ET DC Blue garage door motors

The DC Blue family drives sectional, tip-up and roll-up garage doors: the original DC Blue, the DC Blue Digital and the DC Blue Advanced, with a 2024 Nice DC Blue Advanced generation now in shops. ET's user manual lists the warnings a DC Blue Advanced gives when you press the remote:

ET DC Blue Advanced warnings

Rapid beeps and flashing lightBeams blocked, or holiday lock-out or party mode onClear the beams, or switch the mode off
One short beep every 15 secondsThe mains is off and it's running on the batteryRestore the power; the beeps stop 5 minutes after each use
The door stopsA blown motor fuse, or an encoder faultHave the fuse or the encoder replaced

ET also sets two limits on where a DC Blue Advanced belongs: not on a busy entrance such as a complex's, and not in a carport open to the weather. Steps for the DC Blue Advanced are on its manual page.

Before pulling the release cord on any garage motor, look at the springs: ET warns that a door with a broken spring can drop when it's released.

ET remotes and receivers

ET's remotes come in two rolling-code formats, ET BLUE and the newer ET BLU MIX, and the Drive receivers read both. A remote from another make won't learn. We code new remotes, remove lost ones and replace receivers on site; the steps for the Drive 500 are on the ET manual page, and for the Drive 300 on its own page.

Questions

ET questions

What do the different error codes on an ET gate motor mean?

It depends on the model. A Drive 500 or 600 spells the fault out in words, such as an encoder stall or a 12 V aux error; a Drive 300 shows three-letter codes such as e1 or col; the older ET 500 has no display and talks through its light and buzzer. See what goes wrong with ET motors.

How to reset ET gate motor?

First find out what needs resetting. Five quick beeps at every press mean a lock-out is on, which you switch off from the remote; a collision lock-out on a Drive clears itself once the gate's path is clear; and the Drive 500's Reset and Restore menu returns settings to a saved point or to factory defaults. Read the ET manual page.

What is the price of an ET Nice 500 gate motor?

In shops, about R6 260; motor only about R5 000 without installation, for the kit and for the motor alone. Our installed kit, with battery, rack and remotes, is on the kit card above. Prices checked October 2026. See ET kit prices.

Is ET the same company as Nice?

ET Systems is now part of the Nice group, which is why newer ET products and manuals carry the Nice name, such as the 2024 Nice DC Blue Advanced. Remotes, receivers and parts follow the ET range. See the ET range.

Can you repair an ET DC Blue garage motor?

Yes: the original DC Blue, the DC Blue Digital and the DC Blue Advanced, for sectional, tip-up and roll-up doors, as well as the door itself if it's the cause. See the DC Blue warnings.
