Gate motor and garage door repairs in Linden

Before the gold rush, Linden was part of the farm Klipfontein, and before it was surveyed the land grew fruit. It became a suburb in 1901, possibly named after Johannes van der Linde, who laid it out, and joined Johannesburg in 1937. A gate that's looked after asks less of its motor. A few minutes now and then go a long way:

• Keep the rail or the swing path clear of leaves, stones and grit; on a sliding gate, anything in the rail is a bump the motor has to climb.
• Watch the wheels and hinges. A wheel that has worn flat or a hinge that has dropped shows as a gate that drags, scrapes or stops in the same place each time.
• Don't grease a sliding gate's rail or wheels. Gemini's manual warns that grease gathers grit and turns into a grinding paste.
• Mind the rack's gap. On a slider, the rack should sit just clear of the pinion, about 2 mm in Gemini's figures, not resting on it.
